Venues I LOVE – Stanwick Lakes
Stanwick Lakes really is for me a triple win! It’s just on my doorstep and therefore I love to go here just to escape the crazy world and wander with my thoughts.
But it’s also an venue in it’s own right, with loads to offer couples looking for something a little different for their wedding day.
I actually use Stanwick Lakes for photos a hell of a lot: the views are to die for and it makes a really fantastic setting for engagement shoots and family shoots. That’s before we’ve even discussed it’s potential for sunset on your wedding day!
Regardless of where you’re having your wedding day, I always like to have an engagement shoot with my couples. It’s a way to get to know each other, and a test drive for how you’ll feel on your wedding day with a Phil around! More on this here…..
As you’ll be below, Stanwick Lakes does lend itself perfectly for this. It’s a really relaxed, friendly and open environment where you can be yourself and let the wind in your hair.
Best of all, we can go for a walk together along the paths, see different areas all of which have something to offer. I’ll tell you know, you’ll be smiling as a result!

The thing about Stanwick Lakes is that being there just fills you with the most amazing sense of freedom and relaxation. Weddings days are frantic and constantly busy: taking my couples to the Lakes is an amazing way for them to wind down and spend quality time reflecting on their special day. I’m very blessed that I work closely with both I’m really lucky in that I work with both the Stanwicks’ and therefore I have all the permissions, releases and passes to allow me to pop in there with my couples whenever the mood takes me!

As you enter the lakes you travel over the bridge and immediately in front of you the lakes open up. This is the spot I love most for sunset. In this space, no more than 30 seconds from the car park you have the most beautiful skies behind you as you wander along the path taking in the natural beauty all around. As you’ll see from the below, while the sun’s position moves with the time of year, there is ALWAYS something there.

In terms of the venue itself, the main visitor building has a large and expansive space which can be used for private celebrations. There are in fact three different suites that can be used for weddings and celebrations! The Solar suite is an open air venue built around the open air cinema to the left of the main lake area. You also have the Solstice Suite which is in the main building itself: be aware though that I would say a maximum of 40 guests in this suite. Finally, you have the option to have a marque erected just next to the lake itself.
Most importantly, all link on to either the veranda to the side of the building and the deck which looks all the way over the lake or the lake itself. This is the way to get perfect photos which are a little different most importantly helps us get amazing images at sunset.
The team here are fantastic, always willing to go the extra mile and will do everything they can to help you. If you’re looking for a church wedding, the nearby church in Stanwick Village is equally amazing and the vicar there is one of the most friendly I’ve ever met!
