Venues I Love – Irchester Country Park, Northamptonshire

Another location I love – but it’s not a venue as such.

It is however, an amazing gem of a place to head to with your family for an engagement or family shoot.

Here, you get to take in nature and having a bit of a giggle and fun as you do so!

Irchester Country Park is itself split into four main sections:  the forest, the lawns, the cliffs and the hub.  The hub is where you will find the adventure playground, the facilities and the ranger reception.  But it’s the forest and the cliffs I love most and use for photographs.

As you enter Irchester Country Park, there is an upper car park on the left hand side.  This leads directly on to the lawns, and if you cross the entry road towards the cliffs and the forest sections.  If you were to carry on down the entry road that takes you down to the hub.

The country park itself is a remnant of an old ironstone quarry which after closure was allowed to return to nature and heavily planted with trees in the last 1960’s.  The georgraphic relief this has left behind is full of ridges and furrows throughout the forest area which gives a great run through for the little ones, and also a chance for me to play with some interesting angles.

To the very south of the site is the cliffs area.  This itself is one of the deep ironstone quarry carvings, which for safety reasons is closed off to visitors.  However, the open space it gives the park and the backdrops are something to behold.  Also through this area and the forest the county council have taken care to erect wooden carvings, huts and railway equipment which also add to the ambience and feel.

You’ll see from the photos here it is a place I love to visit:  it’s normally not overly populated and most of all there is plenty here to keep the little ones entertained.  Most of all, its somewhere a little different to come to start our journey from client and supplier to being close friends.  Why this is so important is in the article linked below.
